1960's racing FUCHS (prob. one of a kind)

Greetings All. Up for sale is a set of 15X7.75 & 8.75" Al Reed refinished Fuchs that I wanted to build a car around. Both Al and Harvey (showed him pics at Ventura) believe these were made by a Porsche racing team in the '60s. They were made from Deep Sixes (with hearts) and look AWESOME!! They have the 15x6 & 901 part number stamps on the back. Only thing is that they DO NOT look like weldups. You can not see any type of seam or welded area. In fact, Al Reed took the Fuchs to a friend of his who makes wheels and they couldn't figure out how these wheels were made... Thet are that perfect. I Do Not want to sell these because I know I'll never see anything like them ever again but I could use the extra money. I just got married and priorities have changed a bit. I will try to download pictures but if they don't come out, I can email some to you. You can reach me at willromero@aol.com $5,000 +shipping is my price. It's kind of alot though I think worth it. Regards, Bill

I might suggest you contact some historic porsche racing people that attended Ren and perhaps $15-20k is more likely if as you described mfg.'d for a particular early campaign'd car. If they were on a specific factory racing car that has history they would be worth far more than $5k. good luck

Those are very cool looking wheels. That being said, I dont see that there is any reason to believe that they were on an early race car. Not accusing you of any funny business, but these could have been built in the 60's, in the 80's or last week for all we know.

It appears to me that there is a safety bead on about two inches from the lip which makes no sense at all. Of course deep 6's didnt have safety beads anyway, so I have to assume that this "safety bead" is actually the weld that has been nicely finished out. Adding to my theory, it does seem to match the logical location for a replacement hoop to be welded to the face of the factory deep 6 wheel.

The skeptic in me sees a first time poster and then wonders why the pictures of the front of the wheels are so sharp, yet every picture of the guts of the wheels is blurry?

    cool fuchs

if i'm not mistaken ...wheels are measured inside the bead, thus 8.25 as opposed to 8.75...just a thought to help clarify (i hope)

Those wheels are weld up made by a guy in North Carolina back in the 70's he also was the first guy to make the 10" when 16's first came out. I'v been to his shop out in the woods great place. He's been dead for 20 year now. His last name was "Mc" something maybe someone from that area can remember back that far.

Harvey & Al are the ones who believe the wheels were made in the '60s. Harvey told me (at the Ventura show) that in the '70s, there were 8 & 9" Fuchs and at the time, didn't cost that much. It would have been much easier and less expensive to buy factory 7,8 or 9" wheels. I give them the bennifit of the doubt. After all, they know their Fuchs. As far as the quality of the picture, I have a crappy camera. -Bill

Well, this is easy to figure out...What are the date codes stamped on the wheels interior on the ridge between the lug holes? OH, and what is the full part number on all of the wheels please?

    Michael,
The question is not when the core wheels were made by Porsche, but when they were modified.

You guys are killing me! I'm not trying to pull a fast-one or trying to get over on anyone. Hell, here's my phone number... 626.676.7667. I wrote the OPINIONS of two people who I believe know their Porsche wheels. If anyone is interested in looking at them, give me a call or post... As far as the complete part numbers, I'll post them tomorrow. -Bill
