I saw that there was recently a discussion of Heuer and Breitling chronographs on this Forum. Here's a link that will take you to a photo showing two of the Heuer / Breitling rivals.

Now why'd you have to go and do that??
Maybe I'll add 'em too my Christmas list... and get lucky.

Hey Jeff - thanks for posting here! There are lots of Early 911 / 'Early Watch' fans around here. Of course we all have a special interest in the dash timers too. Thanks to knowledge gained from your site (www.onthedash.com) I recently added a Poorman's Carrera to my collection (for a little over $200).
I nearly bought what I believe to be a 'Poorman's Breitling' as well. These two watches were both on eBay at the same time. The real deal sold for $1028. The other went for $224.
Jeff,
Welcome to the group!
I have always enjoyed your "period correct" website - beautiful! If you're into vintage Porsches as well as the watches that often accompany them, this is your place. I look forward to more of your posts.
I have always been a huge Heuer fan and finally got one of these a couple years ago. Now I'm trying to resist the Siffert Autavia!

Tag Heuer re-issued the original Carrera a few years back I was able to snag one at a Tag outlet in Cabazon. Slightly differnent cosmetics and a Lemania movement, original's on the left.
From http://home.xnet.com/~cmaddox/heuer/...nd_the_future:
For many years there was not a Carrera model, as the often plain, austere and older styling did not mesh well with the bold styling of the lines added after the TAG takeover like the S/EL and 6000. The Carrera line was largely forgotten except by those who had owned one, or perhaps wished they could find one to purchase. Eventually, towards 1997/1998, TAG-Heuer finally realized that the roots of the brand was still cherished and had retained great salability and launched a "Classics" series of watches. The first "new-old" model was the 1964 Carrera Re-Edition.So when TAG-Heuer sought to re-release a version of the 1964 model, they ironically choose the movement that replaced the original movement's main competitor, the Lemania c.1873, known to most Omega fans as the c.1861 movement which power the current Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch. The level of finish on the movements of the Re-Edition Carrera and the Moonwatch are comparable, nearly identical.

In my research of period correct, dash mounted timing devices to enhance a Porsche rally car Paul Kramer at AutoKennel is preparing for me, I ultimately came across Jeff's site, www.onthedash.com and was amazed at the depth of information I found there, particularly of the Heuer timing devices I am most interested in.
When I first stumbled on his site I pretty much assumed he was in the UK as it seems many who appreciate these timing devices are. After a couple of subsequent visits, I noticed his name and "Atlanta, Georgia" at the bottom of the page and thought, “wow, maybe I could actually connect with this guy!” A couple of days and another visit or two later curiosity got me and I Googled “Jeffrey M Stein Atlanta Georgia”. Almost every hit matched that name with a large law firm I know of and I thought, “hmm, now wouldn’t that be ironic if this guy is right next door to my office!” But I thought, the Jeffrey I’m looking for is a watch guy and this one is a lawyer so,....probably not.
I sent an email to him through his website and imagine my amazement to learn the very next day that his office is right next door to mine! Unbelieveable!
I've had the pleasure to meet with Jeff a couple of times this week and can confirm without hesitation that he is the undisputed guru of Heuer timepeices, at least in this country, if not the world. He's not a dealer and sells nothing from his website, it is strictly a hobby that he is very passionate about. He has been a great coach to me as I determine exactly what I want for the car, where I can possibly find it, about how much I should expect to pay, etc.
He is an awfully nice guy and willing to answer questions regarding these watches and timing devices. If you have a real interest in this subject, he is clearly the man.
Jeff, welcome to the forum! The breadth of knowledge that can be found here has just increased again.

Jeff,
does your site have any info on vintage Breitlings?
Currently, OnTheDash does not have much information at all on the Breitlings . . . just a few random photos and references.
Check the LInks Page of OnTheDash -- http://www.onthedash.com/links.shtml -- for some of my favorite Breitling references.
Check back on the What's New page, because there will be some additional Breitling content coming soon.
