    Parts needed for ST Clone

    Hi All;

    The ST project is starting to progress.

    I was wondering if any board member may have an Aluminum door skin for the driver side door - LH side - that they may be willing to part with.

    We have the RH side but if you will part with a pair of skins, that would be great too.

    Here is a pic of an old steel ST flare being re-positioned on the 71S coupe.

    Thank you,

    ALU Door Skins

    Here are some pics of what turned up as a result of the WTB.

    The image of the Blut Orange door shows an ALU skinned example from an ST written off in a race incident in the early 1970s. The remains of the rocker trim tape are still in evidence on this door.

    The detail image of this door shows the big rivets used to attach the skin to the steel frame.

    This particular door used a lift strap to raise/lower the window rather than the window lift mechanism. A close look at the image of the complete door, about 3/4 of the way back on the upper edge, reveals the eyelet to thread the lift strap. The eyelet is welded on a thin guage metal plate that is in turn rivetted to the inside of the frame. On the inner side, there are remnants of the lightweight carpet used to trim the section above the lightweight door panel, used in place of the upholstered upper trim piece.

    A few other bits of the same car found their way to me, but unfortunately not the LH door, which I assume was written off with the tub.

    The two nos skins were purchased by the PO from the Vasek Polak dealership. Note the "AL" scribed in crayon on the LH skin.

    The Karosserie section of the Porsche Spare Parts List for Type 911S, Competition Type, Edition april 70, gives the part numbers as:

    911.531.901.00 Door exterior panelling, Left ALU
    911.531.902.00 Door exterior panelling, Right ALU

    Thanks again to Boba for his help and especially to sixgt for the heads up. For those like me who are coming late to the hobby, it is nice to know that nobody throws out their old stuff!
