    Turning bushings

Bob, we made a wood buck to the correct bushing i.d. then froze the bushing on it and lathed the out side to the desired dimension.

The cold part warmed in a few seconds when mounted to the metal lathe and the cutting bit, so that was of marginal benefit. Turning speed went from slow to a medium fast and would chatter/cut up the material if at the wrong speeds. Found a good cutting speed, and cut four bushing in about an hour. It was removing minimal material or it would grab/chunk.

This is the wood buck with an old bushing on it (so I can remember why it is being saved).
When removing material from the inside of a bushing the buck has a snug fit pocket to insert the bushing.

    Hope this helps.

Interesting. I wonder if a constant spray with friendly refrigerant on the bushing would increase rigidity and reduce the chattering and grabbing during the cut?
