    Engine fire.....

Bought a 1971S from the US a month ago. Car has been in transport for a while, going by several ports in Europe, before planned reload on to new wessel in Bremerhaven, Germany, the new wessel heading for final port of Drammen, Norway. Message from the shipping agent today "car has not been reloaded because of engine fire". The shipping agent told me to sit down before he gave me the message, glad I did. But, he told me, in German terms it could be just a backfire into the airfilters, but he did not know the details until tomorrow. I hope its only the airbox's and maybe the carbs as the car was planned to be reequipped with MFI. What about the alu. deck lid? I will know more tomorrow.

Not a good Christmas present, maybe penalty for "stealing" an early S out of the US?

You are a good guy. You don't deserve a punishment.

If it comes to buying a next car, just make it a non-op to prevent any mechanical damage. The freight charges for the Westcoast - R'dam/Antwerp are the same for running or non running cars.

Maybe it could not be reloaded because it would'nt fire UP !

I thought that most shipping company's made sure there's no fuel in the car when shipped, or at least an absolute minimum !

    John,
I hope your car is OK. I had a friend who owned one on the 5 street legal GT-40 burn to the ground.

I wonder what happened -- looking forward to reading your next post. I got an imagine of some dock person squirting gas into the carbs trying to fire it up for a fun spin around the harbor... hopefully it was insured.

John, I,m very sorry to hear this, we'll be waiting to hear your, hopefully, good news follow up. I never like to hear "engine fire" and Porsche used in the same sentence.

Talked to the shipping agent again today, he said he did not know exactly what the situation was, but he did not "think" it was "fatal"....his contact in Germany was located 1 hour from the port. They will push the car onto a boat today and it will be at the port in Norway next Thursday, then I will know for sure.

    I will update then.

Too bad they leave you in the blue, esp. w/ the holiday weekend ahead off you. The warehouse manager could have taken some pictures and send them to your agent.
