Thread: Question on 1972 T Coupe

    Question on 1972 T Coupe

I have asked about this car before but there was total silence in response. The car is the 1972 Yellow T for sale at Autosport Designs. It is listed on their site and is now on EBAY once again.

Has anyone looked at this car? Is it priced way too high?

    Mark,

Although I haven't seen it in person, the pictures indicate it's an excellent example. However, at $85K, it's way over-priced in my opinion (like X 2)

    Cheers!

The car is listed on eBay right now.

I have not seen the car in person either. My observation is that it seems to be a nicely restored car but it is a low option T model. No 'S' spoiler or trim, Sport seats, sunroof, etc. It is a ROW model with carbs. Documents of the restoration but no mention of 'books and records' from early in the car's life.

So this says to me that there shouldn't be a tremendously high value placed on the car and the current bid is all the money (and more), IMHO.

Is redline at 6400 rpm correct for a '72 2.4T? Just curious.

    another example

This car was on e-bay more than a year ago and went for around 40K at the time.It was purchased by Roads Scholars and they have it for 67K.It`s a 37,000 mile car and is very nice. There is a 71T coupe with a signal orange paint for sale which is a PCA Preservation winner for sale at 95K.You be the judge. No matter what market you look at ,there is someone always fishing! It is a free market society so far. TFM

    Tom:

I am reasonably sure that the "preservation car" is one that was offered for $25K back around the turn of the century. I have photos of it somewhere and came close to buying it. It was/is a really nice car.
FWIW, the Jennings 911-S could have been had for mid-$20's as well.
I didn't buy it because I thought it was silly money. I did eventually buy it because it couldn't be rented.
If you knew what it purportedly sold for recently I would fear for your undergarments.

    Best regards,

    Tom

    One in the same!

A Board member had it up in Wisconsin. I spoke to him too.Where was our crystal ball,Tom? It was 25K,so I bought my 71 Targa instead. My second choice was not bad either. But it`s only a targa.Refered to on the west coast as a parts car! TFM

Can you tell me where the 1971 signal orange T is for sale?

Thanks for the info guys. The consensus appears to be that these cars are very nice but are overpriced. But then again, if I purchased a $25k driver, it could cost $30k to $40k(or more)to make it perfect.

Am I correct in assuming that these dealers are pricing these cars at about what it would cost to buy a driver and restore it? Would you guys make fun of me if I paid around $67K for the red car at Road Scholars?
