    Hey David,

My advice would be to bead blast the black finish off and spray with VHT starting with light coats and working up to full coverage. The bead blasting gives the paint a great surface to adhear to.

VHT is a good and 'resprayable' finish...

The best all-round finish by far is Jet-Hot (or comparable) ceramic coating.

The up-side is their 'grey' finish is very close to the factory color (for stock mufflers)... and it's virtually undamageable... the finish cleans with acetone and a wire brush.

The down-side is it's pretty expensive...

    Hope this helps,
    Cheers

I've had amazing results from POR-15's High Temp Exhaust Manifold Gray. It still looks like the day it was painted. VERY pleased.

I used it on heat exchangers and mufflers. Also on my 914-6/GT headers. Swear by it now.

    Hope that helps.

David...as Chuck and other say...go ahead and re paint it now....the original black paint only last a little while....goes quickly at the inlets on the front and backside of the muffler...first hand experience here on a Dansk 2 in 2 out.....John

    Vht

VHT makes a primer to go with their spay-on grey.Make sure you use it first,as it seems to give a more uniform look and hopefully will last longer. Here is my result. TFM

Eric, how did you apply your POR-15? I see it's not offerred in a rattle can. Also, did you use any primer first?

    Thanks,
    Lee

I went to bare metal on the POR-15 (I think they actually called it POR-20 but it's easy to find on the POR-15 site). Get the smallest amount. It needs to be thinned. We used Lacquer thinner vs. their too expensive thinner. It needs to be sprayed on with a paint sprayer. You can brush it on as well... but I think it looks best sprayed on.

Also, regarding the black paint. I agree with John 100%. That stuff will only last a couple weeks. If you want it black, then strip and repaint with a proper black coating.

    That looks nice!

Did you install on the car and run it to cure the VHT paint? Or?
How many coats did you do? primer/paint

Which of these did you use:
