Thread: OEM fender? How to tell?

    OEM fender? How to tell?

I would like to know if the fender shown on the picture can be an OEM 68 fender of a 68 car. My 66 doesn't have the lips as shown. From when did Porsche start using those? Only on replacement fenders or on stock/ original fenders as well?

    Regards,

    Richard

The '68 fender is a one year only model. The headlight mounting tabs were introduced in '68 and on to mount the DOT required sealed beam lights.

Do I get it correct that:

    - 68 and on the tabs were stock (the way the car left the factory)?
    - than this fender is possibly original to the car it came from (instead of replacement fender)
    - since 68 was the last year of SWB that makes this fender (SWB + tabs) kind of unique/ one year only?
    - however replacement fenders made after 68 were all 68 (SWB + tabs) style?

    Thanks,

    Richard

Does the fender have a number stamped on it? My 1966 #3303994 has 994 stamped on the fender and other body panels.

    Yes

    Yes

Yes, however from '65-'68 there were three different fenders with two of them one year only, '65 and '68. Remember, LWB fenders will still fit but they make up the fourth different fender from '65 through '73 not counting racing flairs.

    - however replacement fenders made after 68 were all 68 (SWB + tabs) style?

Not sure regarding replacement fenders but factory fenders from '68 on have the tabs (at least through '89).

    68911+1 thanks for your answers

One more question. Till when did the factory stamp the headlight buckets w/ the last 3 digits of the VIN? All the way till 73?
