Calling Early 911s in the Southeast

    R Gruppe/Early S weekend in the mountains February 2-3

I'm organizing a weekend drive in the mountains of Eastern Tennessee with the help of Knoxville's Vic Rola. It's time that the Southeast has some more events focused on the 911s we love, and this will hopefully be the first of more to come throughout 2008. I know the cars are here, so let’s take advantage of the milder weather we have in our area and get them out for some fresh air. This event started as an R Gruppe weekend, but is open to all early 911 and sports purpose pre-74 Porsche owners.

This is a laid back, informal weekend. No formal banquet, no organized rally, no car show or PCA judges. Just a good time with other drivers with like interests in a beautiful location. The mountains of western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee have some great roads. So I'm sure we’ll find some fun routes to take on the way to Greenville, and over the weekend as well.

We have chosen the General Morgan Inn in Greenville, Tennessee as our overnight stay for Saturday night. This is a great hotel with a good restaurant and bar for bench racing. Thanks to Vic we have a discounted rate at the hotel of $75 plus tax. Please contact the hotel directly if you'll be joining us to make your reservation. Ask for the "911 meet" rate:

We do need some sort of head count to find out what type of dinner arrangements will need to be made, so please post here or contact me if you’ll be attending.

    Tom,
Sounds like fun! Lets hope for a warm spell. It was 4 degrees here Thursday morning and still snow on the driveway. My wife actually expressed interest in this event too. Just "over the mountain" for us so weather permitting were in.
I'll make reservations. Got some purdy new seats to show off.

4 degrees? That makes our high teens Thursday morning sound better than it felt. No snow, just cold. In the 60s today and 70s tomorrow. hope we get some of that warm weather on 2/2.

It will be good to see you again and thanks for joining us.

Well we had a small turnout of 9 cars and 7 went on Saturdays drive after a nice lunch at the hotel. It was 58 degrees and hardley a cloud in the sky. A lucky break for early February considering we had an ice strom in Asheville Friday. I did not see Shawn there but his car was parked at the end of the row in front of the Hotel. More when the rest return.....

Hey Daron, thanks for coming over with us and for the tour of the bikes. We saw some cool goups of riders on our way back into Asheville Sunday morning on Hwy 209 and 63. Along with 25/70 along the river we found some awesome roads!

Here are a few pics from the weekend.
