Thread: Early 911 (ROW) value

    Early 911 (ROW) value

What is the general consensus of how the ROW early 911s compare in value to a US-spec version?

Interested in the 72-73 T's that had different fuel delivery systems (carbs vs. MFI/CIS). I have seen a few worth looking at but didnt know how the values compared.

other than lighting/lenses and RHD/LHD there is no difference in those yrs.

The 72-73 T's had Zenith carbs Vs MFI or CIS. The Euro cars tend not to be as nice a US cars, hard to find one that isn't full of rust, which is why so many US spec 911 are headed over the pond.

i believe that T's had Weber carbs thru 69 (in 69 E+S got MFI), Zenith for 70-71, MFI 72-73 and CIS in 73.5.

    Short history/overview here ...

    Karl,
I am pretty sure Phil is correct that all of the Euro 2.4T cars came with Zenith carb's. I don't agree with Phil that the average Euro car tends not to be as nice as those in the USA. I have seen nice ones and junk on both sides of the pond. On average, I would say that there are a lot more nicer ones and a lot more junky ones in the USA. That's why it's such a crap shoot for Euro buyers looking for early 911/912's to buy in the Sates. There sure are alot fewer good early 911 mechanics and shops specializing in early Porsches here in Europe though....

Apologies Phil. I had US spec on the brain.
Is it correct then to state that Euro's had Solex or Zenith in 72, and MFI early 73 before switching to CSI? Is that correct or did none of the Euro 73T's have MFI?

    Karl-
I believe only US cars had CIS, Euro got them in the mid-late 70s. I dont think they ever had MFI on their T's.

One other thing worth pointing out is that the US importer tended to order specific option packages like S trim and 5 speed trans... ROW cars vary more. You will more often find custom-ordered cars elsewhere, from 'stripper' 2.4s with 4-speeds all the way to loaded cars with paint and leather-to-sample.

From a marketplace standpoint, ROW cars have no different value until later in the smog control era.

there was also the large bumperettes for 73.5 US cars and different fuel tanks capacity for T's and the tank ventilation system for US cars. Also think us row cars got different headlight switches in 72. likely rear fog lights were row and not us cars too. also a couple of vin placements at the driver side door jam and windscreen. also radio bands were different. I believe the 72 rear shelf option was different between us and row but not sure what that difference was. seats were different too because of seat belt warnings for 72/73 us cars.

    US vs ROW

Also, US 911s had sealed beam headlights, while ROW had the halogen as standard fitment - usually H4 or optioned H1.
Not only did US cars have seat belt warning buzzers & fasten seltbelts dash lights, but they also got retractable seat belts in 72 - ROW didn't get retractable belts as standard until 74. The US 72 & 73 models had the neat covers for the selt belt reel attached to the wheel hump forward of the rear seats.
I think someone mentioned the complex fuel tank ventilation system intro'ed in 72.
Steering column decals for turn signals & wipers were uniquely US I believe.
