Question about Tires for '67 S Targa

    All,

I bought my '67 S Targa about 2 months ago, and want to change out the 15 year old Yokohamas (185 R70 15). The car runs on original 4.5 Fuchs.

    I've checked out the Universal Vintage Tire website, and they have Vredsteins available in 185 R70 15 for $121/tire (7.44" tread width / 25.24" diameter) and a 185 R 15 for $137/tire (5.50 tread width / 26.25" diameter).

Any comments about Universal, Vredsteins and tire size?

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi
Originally your car had 165x15 on the 4,5" Fuchs. I would certainly stick to this dimension on these narrow wheels. Vredestein Classic has 165x15H and also 175/70x15H(new) which is a little lower and wider. I know Michelin also has 165x15H in the old original XAS pattern, but these tires are even more expensive than the Vredesteins, and could be a little hard to find also (I do not think ordinary Michelin dealers have them).

I now have Continantal CT 22 165x15 on my 67 911 with 4,5" Fuchs, but these are just T speed(190 km) and should be H (210km).

Probably a vintage Dunlop in that 165 size too but like the Michellins probably much more expensive than the Vred. which are a nice vintage tread alt. IMO

When I bought my Michelin XZX's for my '67 Beetle several years ago, Coker tire was still carrying 165 XZXs. They tend to make them in batches.
