Start up after a lay up

    Hi all

I have a 68 Sportomatic that I bought a few years ago as a project,I ran it once for a min or two about 31/2 years ago(!) and it probably didnt run for at least a year before that.
I have turned it by hand every now and again,so its not seized etc.but other than that I dont know its condition apart from the engine has about 50,000 on it from new,and it sounded fine for the minuete it ran for years ago.
Do you think I should do some checks, oil plugs, carbs rebuild then try to run it,or should I do more serious investigation?
Ive done dozens of 356 motors but never really messed with a 911 lump, what do you guys think?
    thanks in advance

I'm no expert whatsoever, but if'n it were me I'd begin at the gas tank. Clean it out, check the fuel filter and the lines to the engine. Then change the oil and check the plugs and distributor, then have at it. Might be a good idea to have somebody there holding a fire extinguisher on the outside chance something goes wrong.
