    Wink Possible options for 1970?

Yesterday, I saw a wonderful burgundy 911T Targa from 1970. It is claimed to be 100 percent original, never restored, and to have covered only about 7.000 miles.

I examined the car carefully looking for inconsistencies and found myself quite impressed by the level of details present. Nevertheless, I was suprised to find:

    1. Smooth door panels without the waffle pattern and possibly in leather? (since the seats are leather, was it an option to have smooth leather door panels?)

    2. Automatic "repa" seatbelts. I was surprised to see "self winding" seatbelts integrated into the back panels, as I thought that option was only available in 1972.

Were these two options availabe in 1970?

    Milou,

    1. Here is a pic from a 1970 drivers manual for the seat belts. The car in the pic is a post '69 MY.
I don't know if this option goes back further than 1969 but it could for the German market.
The retracting belts became more commonplace after 1972 as local authorities demanded their installation.
The Australian market had them as standard from 1974 onward.
    2. I assume you could order leather with everything,even in 1970 !
Eric may be able to elaborate on both of these.

    Cheers,
    Dennis.

    Thank you!

Thank you for the information, so the seatbelts are fine!

    Yes,
Leather optioned cars had smooth door panels instead of the basket weave. I have the original panels from my 70S in red. I will snap a photo for you.

    Just to confirm,

I had a 69S targa, and it had retractable belts in it. The belts were on the original german kardex.

I also had a different 69S, and it had smooth leather door panels, original.

    regards,
    Eric

    Could it be all original?

Thanks Companzer. Maybe the car is really unrestored? Here are more pictures:

the plastic airbox does not appear to be correct for a 70MY. Plastic boxes and the style of clips that go over the top of the box are MY72 and later.

    possible options for a 1970

What an outstanding car, I'm amazed that cars like that keep popping up. That could answer a lot of authenticity questions. The fuel lines going into the aircleaner look to have been changed, but I believe the plastic aircleaner started in 1971. My 71 T has plastic and I've seen others. You didn't say, did you make an offer?

Ed I think you have a late 71MY as you also are sporting a flag mirror. What month was your mfg?
