1967 911 Soft Window Targa Drivable Project

Note: I have all the parts, including proper short wheelbase front fenders, rear quarter panels, bumpers, and trim, to restore this car back to 100% original! New floorpans included in price.

    Suspension/Underbody

The car has had the front pan replaced properly very recently, and is now due for a floor pan replacement (typical of even dry climate soft Targas). There are a few holes in them, but you could get by for awhile if you wish. Rockers and rear suspension areas are solid.

    Interior

Interior is very original with no dash cracks, nice door panels and pockets. The Targa top, soft window, and boot are in like new shape. The previous owner obviously cared a lot for this car, even if his exterior styling taste is questionable. Some pics show 80s Recaros in it, but they have been removed and the original correct non-headrest seats are now installed.

    Body

All body VINs match! Still has the engine compartment stickers. It has been repainted red (the original color was light ivory) but has had no accident damage that I can tell. All flares are fiberglass and easily removed. I have the original rear decklid. Remember, 1967 was the first year of the Targa and the only year they made the soft window body standard!

It was originally a German market car that was brought over in the 80s. It still has the euro taillights and front turn signals. Not much in the way of records except since I've owned it. Owner previous to me owned it for 15 years...the body was still original until 5 years ago when he became "bored" with it, thus the RSR look and red repaint.

    Drivetrain

It runs and drives great, 901 5-speed shifts very smooth with no crunching. It has the numbers matching original 130hp engine with proper Weber carbs. The previous owner says it was rebuilt ten years ago. The engine is very clean and pulls very nicely...I would expect it to pass a leakdown test with no problem.

    Restoration info

Needs floorpans installed, paint stripped, front and rear fenders replaced (due to fiberglass flares), and original decklid installed.

A Porsche factory worker found the following in their production archive:

Car 500438 was delivered 18.may`67 to
    Mahag,Munich / motor 911726 is original / Color 6601 =
slate gray / Interior leatherette black / gearboxtype
    902/1 5-speed / option chrome wheels

While the 911"S" soft Targas sell for big money, they made more than TWICE as many "S" Targas as the Normal model...only 235 worldwide!

I want $14,000 firm for this very drivable, easy restoration project. If I cannot get that price, I will try my luck on eBay. Car is located in Redlands, CA. Please PM or email with offers. Here are lots of pics:

Could be a really nice car!

Just wanted to ask if you would check the paint code again for me. In the photos it looks like it's a 6604, which is light ivory. I am interested if it is in fact Slate Grey. I would be interested in the quarters and fenders too, if they ever come up separately.

Yeah...I think it has a lot of potential. This is the perfect project car...doesn't really need much money to complete it, just lots of time, which I don't have right now.

Not sure why the doorjamb code is different. The PO said it used to be gray. Will ask my factory contact to double check, thanks for bringing this to my attention.

The factory color is in fact ivory...my contact at the factory initially made a mistake. All parts are included in the price, but I may discount it a bit if you already have some parts.
