Thread: WTB set of 185x70 15 VR tires

WTB set of 185x70 15 VR tires

I just noticed one of my 17 year old Yokohama A321's with 20k miles on them is worn out. The others look fine, they still have at least 60% tread on them. So time for a new set, the wheels are 6x15 Fuches. My first choice is to keep 185x70 15 VR size tires on the car, but I'm not interested in paying $380-$450/tire for reproduction Michelin XWX's or Pirelli CN36's. I'm looking for something in the $75 - $125/tire range.

My other option if I don't find reasonably priced 185x70 15 VR tires is going 195x65 or 205x60 VR. Not aesthetically pleasing on a 911 that I want to keep original, but I'm working on a limited budget. Discount Tires has BF Goodrich, Pirelli, and Michelin models in the $75 - $125/tire range.

What's your opinion on putting 185x70 15 HR on a Porsche? My local Costco got them in stock!

Doug, I don't know about you but I don't plan on doing too much motoring above 130 mph.
185/70 H rated are what I went with on my 71' Targa.
They fit right, look right and feel right.
I was considering the Bridgestone Potenza RE 960 in a 195/65 until I found these Vredesteins (pronounced fraid a stein) Sprint Classic.
They're great, actually very sticky (160 tread wear rating), quiet and balance out very well.

I agree, an H rated tire is great for any early 911. 130mph will only put you in Jail.

Call Rich at Fairmount tire in Los Angeles:

    600 W Slauson Ave, Los Angeles - (323) 750-8676

He stocks Vredestein tires at a good price. My 185/70-15 Sprint Classic tires were $89 each. Nice handling tires and they look right.

    Good luck.

Vred's for that price is a very good deal. I have them and like them a lot. 4 for the price of one Coker Michellin.

    911s55, Bert,
Many thanks for the Vredestein recommendation! This is great, I was dreading thinking of having to put 205x60's on the car.

    72tii,
I'm going over to my local Costco today to verify this claim of 185x70 15 HR tires. My information is based on telephone called into them on Friday. The guy I talked to claimed they were a BF Goodrich g-Force Sport. Until I see them with my own eyes, I don't believe him.

I knew it was too good to be true. The tires are 195/65VR15's and 195/65HR15's. BF Goodrich and Michelin models.

Someone just posted a link recently to a place that had a lot of vintage tires in that size - fairly expensive In case you don't go with the Vreds

On the Universal Tire web site they list a 185/70R15 and a 185R15. Which is the best one for an early 911?
