Is there the black side mirror 74-76?

    Hello,
Could you please tell me about this black mirror?
I bought it from the old Porsche part shop.
The mirror is sprayed in black.
From under, it doesn't look like has any chrome plated.
The pictures of the black mirror side by side to the chrome from Stoddard.
    Thanks
    Burint

1975, Porsche had the carrera and 911S with a black mirror. The standard 911 and 74 models had chrome mirrors. BTW- the 912E also had a chrome (stainless flag with chromed base to be accurate) mirror

    And...

1974, also. It's a Carrera thing. They came standard with black window frames and trim, hence the black mirror.

Non-Carreras came standard with bright-dipped anodized trim, which would have had the bright mirror.

'74 Euro Carreras were equipped with the bright mirror.

No John not all 74 Euro carreras had the chrome mirror. I have never seen a chrome mirror on an Aussie (Euro) Carrera except for a round durant as per 73 on some very, very early 74 carreras.

    Dear all,
Thanks for your opinions. This white car is taken from the book and it looks like the U.S. version to me. It's been my favorite picture and the real good looking impact bumper style.

    Here's a picture of a Carrera taken from a 1974 Porsche brochure:

It appears that there might of been some variation in side mirrors used. As I've said before here, I'm much more experienced with 356's than 911's. One thing that is true with those is that there were variations in components. It's fun to try and figure things out though.

    Cheers,

All 74 Carreras, ROW or US, came standard with black trim and mirrors. Bright dipped was standard on other 911s, and an option on the Carrera. I'm not at home, so I can't provide the option code right this minute. If anybody needs it, PM me.

John, I have that same brochure you posted above. Those are pre-production cars and I think they used what they had on hand to meet photo and press deadlines.

75 cars are a whole other mess, as they threw electric mirrors into the mix to add to the confusion.

    J-P...

It's great to have definitive information -- what is your source? Not that I doubt you (in fact, my car had a black mirror on it when I got it). I'm trying to gather information on my '74 Euro Carrera but I'm finding that authoritative sources are hard to find. And I have lots of questions.

Here's a general one: Were the U.S. and RoW Carreras identical except for the mechanicals?

And here's a specific one: One source says that the early Carrera sport seats had a round button to release the seat for tipping forward and that the later seats had the rectangular button with the arrow. But it doesn't define "early" and "later" in terms of dates.

I'd love to find some books and articles that I've missed.

    Cheers,
    JohnA

P.S. A '74 RoW Carrera just sold in Australia for US$130,000. Maybe I should convert mine to RHD.
