    Originality Question

Searched but couldn't find the answer....was the shift lever in the '73 915 originally chrome or black? I'm taking out the OEM short shift kit installed by a PO in my '73, and have a standard lever that is black. Examples of the most original cars I know, shown below, are all black. Does anyone know when they "shifted" over from chrome to black on the levers?

    Thanks,

    Bob

My 71 is chrome, I checked original Porsche 911 it shows two 73's one with chrome and one without. Midyear change? Can't find Brett Johnsons book, it may be in
    there.

    Mid Year Change

I think it is a mid year change, just don't know when? My car is a 12/72 build, one of the above is a 9/72 build date with black.

I've seen '72 cars with the 915 trans but the old style shifter in chrome, as below, so it seems related to the new style 915 shift housing, not necessarily the 915 transmission. My parts books end in '71, guess I'll have to go to the online version.

    Thanks

    Bob,
With the exception of the 901-type 915 shift housing for '72 models, all '915 shift levers I've seen are black (73-'86).
