    Early race bucket - Scheel?

    Hello,

I found an early race bucket, I think it's a Scheel with Recaro seat runners, but you experts will help me.

What year was this type of race bucket used for?
What should it look like when I restore it?
How does the Scheel head rest and runners / base look like?

    Thank you for your help!

Don't know but it looks like a ReCArO knob on the adjuster...is the top of the knob lettered? Scheel adjuster knob is usually round with a coin edge around the circumfrence. Agree, it does have a Scheel look to the proportions.

I had two Recaro race buckets that looked like that many years ago althogh they were never stripped down to the extent that yours are. Thet did have the same reinforcing pattern that yourshas and the same headrest holes, sliders etc.

Foolishly I sold them for what seemed like a lot of money at the time.
I think that they were aftermarket, not for Porsche specifically - mine came out of a 1970's Ford BDA Escort rally car

They had standard (late) sports seats headrests on them that fitted straight into the supports in the seat back -

they did bolt straight into a 911 on standard sports seat bases

That is definatly a Scheel. I have two of them in my car. I wil post some pics tomorrow along with a contact in Germany who will sell you a new cover in black vinyl with black cord center for a fair price. He can also sell you the correct headrests.

What is the distance between the headrest posts on the Scheels? Isn't it slightly different than the Recaros?

    Thx,

I have one of these seats in my car as well. The distance between the posts is the same as the factory Porsche headrest. The Scheel headrest is shaped differently and uses the same corduroy material as the seat inserts.

This is my original Scheel that i recovered using a cover from Gerrit at http://www.nml-depot.de/nmldepot004.htm

I also purchased a complete new seat from him so that I had a matching pair. Type in Scheel in the search function and you will get more info than you ever wanted.

Great! That's what I am looking for! I will contact him. Thank you.

If anyone has a set of seat runners or tilt base for a Scheel, please let me know!

What years where these Scheels used in Porsche 911? Any specific difference in between the 2 types of seats
yours with the curved and mine with the straight side wings?

I think your seat is identical to mine, the loose padding probably disquises the curved wings a bit.
They were used in some of the ST's in the early 70's according to period advertising. Once again, the search function should provide some of that info. I used Recaro bases on mine - not sure if there was ever a specific Scheel base. Unfortunatly, no easy fix for bases right now.
