    Paul Frere dies at 91

Another great driver and writer / editor passes

Paul Frère (January 30, 1917 - February 23, 2008) was a former racing driver and journalist from Belgium. He participated in eleven World Championship Formula One Grands Prix debuting on 22 June 1952 and achieving one podium finish with a total of eleven championship points. He drove in several non-Championship Formula One races.

He also won the 1960 24 Hours of Le Mans, driving for Ferrari with fellow Belgian teammate Olivier Gendebien.

After retiring from active racing in 1960, he worked as an automotive journalist based in Europe (he was the European Editor for Road & Track magazine).

I believe he was also the editor of Flat6 magazine

Wow ... another legend lost -- thanks for the post. Mr. Frère was indeed an ambassador for the sports car community.

This is sad news. I always enjoyed his writing style in his Road & Track articles. And of couse, the Porsche 911 Story is a treasure trove of information. Sounds like he lived a long, full life.

    Hello,

Yes it is sad to hear that a great driver, and a great person did pass away. On the other hand he did have a rather fullfilling live, and untill recently did he enjoy his Porsche.

I have to correct Nick though, he was not the editor of Flat 6, but a very estimed writer, who did have a colum every month. The main journalist of Flat 6 is Marc Joly and the editor is Mr. Stievenart.

Hope this did clear up one or two things,

    Kind regards,

    JD

Sad news, I was just reading a short article in Road & Track today at lunch that he'd written about the Autobahn.

Did anyone hear the cause? Just wondering because I seem to remember something about an accident he's had a while back. But my memory's been known to be faulty.
