not commenting on price but look at E production #'s.
better yet try to find a nice E. at any price.
sure, S's should be higher priced but by how much?

All my german equipment is either busted or sold...sigh....in the market for a decent non-sunroof tub!!!!!!! Help me get back to autocrossing!!!
according to my book
E made in '72 - 1124
S made -------- 1750
in '73
E made --------- 1366
S ---------------- 1430
not included the targa's.
so if you look at the numbers E are maybe getting more collectable.
could one say that looking at the numbers and the only year with the oil filler cap the E '72 is in fact more desirable ? ( apart from the state it's in of course )
2 reasons why i think not;
1-E's came with that oddball front suspension system (hydraulic?) which is not desirable now and which will not be original on restored cars.
2-911's are, to me, special in large part because when you drive an older 911 you are driving a race car and S's are the closest thing to that.

Woe to those who look to eBay for establishing new price benchmarks, let alone on a reserve-not-met auction. Do people not realize the extent of shill bidding in the auction arena? And this is by no means exlclusive to eBay.

My 2 cents is that the market for high quality E' and S's has increasingly gone underground as opposed to just a couple of years ago. So while we all naturally look to the highly public examples on Ebay, Early S, and the high end dealers, I am convinced it's an increasingly distorted perspective.
