    Dashboard on Ebay

The guys who made these things at the factory for a few Deutsche Marks back in the day must be laughing. Are dashboards the new "sportseats"?

    E-bay Dash

I am pretty certain this is a Stoddard or Porsche dash that does not fit- I know I have one that I bought from Performance Products.
The speaker grille holes are angled on the end, whereas on the original
factory grille they were rectangular, I believe.

    caveat emptor

"I HAVE HEARD THAT SOME ORIGINAL FACTORY DASHES PURCHASED THROUGH STODDARDS PORSCHE DID NOT FIT AS WELL AND NEEDED EXTRA WORK TO FIT, BUT I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS ONE OF THEM. I DO NOT WARRANTEE IT AND THERE ARE NO REFUNDS"

sounds fishy, that's alot of green!

    New Dash

New Stoddard-style replacement. The speaker cover and box are dead giveaways.

Someone is going to be pissed! He could have bought three of those for what he paid.

The disclaimer sounds like the guy knows it is not correct, just like the guy selling the $50 dollar repro orange hood badges for $300.

    E-bay Dash

I sent the seller and the buyer a message that the dash was an ill fitting
piece of crap available through porsche parts suppliers for $1100 to $1200.

They key problem with the new dashes is that the defroster vent cutouts come too far back (from the front) and leave large gaps.

I was able to use a new dash in one car by adding material to the back side of the defroster vent bezels. This is hard to see if you are not familiar with what your stock setup looks like.

Basically the modified defroster bezel has a 'step' that fills the gap. It's necessary on both sides, but moreso on the right.

When I did it, I offered to make molds of the bezels so other people could use newer dashes, but I don't think anyone understood the issue. The guy who just paid $3,000 for the one on eBay soon will.

    $3000....thats sad

It just goes to prove how valuable this forum is. I sent the buyer a note too and suggested he do a little research here before he pays for his item.

    dash

You are correct. I looked at my origional 1973 dash, which I have had since 1973 and the speaker grill is a rectangle, with 17 holes in the first row, 16 in the next,17 in the next etc. and there are 19 rows. I also have a Stoddard dash I got about 3 years ago at their swap meet, which I bought from Stoddard for about $30.00, I guess they knew it was no good when they sold it to me. The Stoddard dash has indents on the back side so they can make a no grill dash, or a grilled dash from the same mold. My origional dash was not made that way.I guess I cannot trust Stoddard?

Why does everyone bash Stoddard for this. It is a factory Porsche part that can be ordered from any dealer. It just happens that Stoddard is the dealer that most people call for vintage parts. If you want to bitch, bitch at Porsche!
