Thread: What the Hella?

    What the Hella?

Were below the bumper fogs available as original equipment in clear, amber and yellow lenses or is it year dependent? Is this true for thru-the-grill driving lights as well? Clear is classy, amber is nice, but yellow looks fantastic with a silver car- wondering what the protocol is on these...as always, thanks for the guidance and info...

As for the title of this thread, sorry, I couldn't resist- Apologies if I've annoyed or offended any fog-heads or hella-aficionados...

Kaleid, just to get you a reply.
Yellow lenses have been originally fitted to all cars in France.
I think it was applied to fog lights (factory) and Cibies as well if they have been sold for the french market.
Amber lights does not make sense since they are reserved for front (US/ROW) and also rear (ROW) indicator lights. That leaves us with clear ones...

In terms of the "below the bumper" lamps, I always thought yellow was for fog laps and clear was for driving lamps. Is this not correct?

    Yellow Lens Source

Since my 911 was a French delivery car, shouldn't I have a set of those yellow lenses!? Man those look cool. I have removable yellow bulb covers but I think I need a set of those lenses. Anybody know a source?

I have a set of original yellow lens Hella 118 Driving lights, Porsche supplied with the unique 5 rivets. I have never seen another set. Anyone else know if they where supplied anywhere else than in France? (they are exactly the same as the clear Hella 118 driving lights)

My plan is to have them on my Albert Blue 71s when its restored. Under the bumper I will have Hella 169 Fogs, but not sure if I will go for Yellow(reflecors) or clear.

BTW I have seen yellow(and owned) Hella 118 fogs, but they have a yellow reflector, not lens.

Below bumper: Only availalble as fog (no driving), either clear reflector or yellow reflector for US and most ROW, not sure of France.

    Above bumper 118's:
Fog: available in US on original order cars w/ tungsten bulb, and clear reflector is predominant, though I believe I have seen yellow reflector as well.
These lights were identical to the fogs on 914's except that they were chrome instead of black. The lense and reflector combo was slightly smaller in diameter, and the trim ring slightly larger on these.

Fog row: H-3 halogen bulb, yellow or clear reflector, Possibility of yellow lense for france, though I haven't owned one, have to check parts book. Note that these were available through US parts dept at dealerships.

Driving: US received h-3 driving bulb on originally ordered cars, as did ROW cars. No amber reflector. Have seen yellow lense for French (?) vehicles.

Sorry for lack of pics, I'll do my best to find some of them.

Note that I've collected these for years as has Michael (70SATMan).

    regards,
    Eric
