Dash Speaker Grill Differences

Hi:

On ebay recently, I saw a vendor selling a dash mounted speaker grill and nos dash. The speaker grill was different than almost evey other I have seen in that the perforations layout was a bit different. The holes or perforations were the same diameter, but in my original grill they were in a single file formation and extended across the grill evenly. The new grill, which is said to be nos, has the holes in a design whereby at the ends (going across the dash) they form a diamond shape or design. I have not counted the holes, but clearly there are less as they do not cover as much of the grill area.

The vendor is a very reputable and bright guy. We have done several transactions without issue. I asked him about this and he advised that Porsche, in their late production ( I guess 1973) changed over to this. He advised that no one knows when or why.

Anyone know anything about this.
