Thumbs up Phillip Island Classic Downunder!

Oh boy - as if I didn't have enough fun last weekend in SoCal at the Lit Fair/Swap/SOW mad Monday .... and a change of pace this weekend just gone with our local Harvest of Gippsland (LOTS of top-notch local food and beverages in a beautiful setting and purrrfect weather)....NOW I'm counting down to the premier historic racing event downunder this weekend!

Record entry list, many great racing legends in attendance (health permitting), weather forecast at this stage looks fantastic...and a 917/30 to boot .

    http://www.vhrr.com/phillip_island.htm

Can't wait - and the camera will definitely get a great workout .

To top it off; our trip from home is via the "back way" - fabulous roads; fabulous scenery - we are so spoilt .

Now I have shown how easy it is to jump on a plane and come visit....would love to entertain a few of you for this event next year (I'm giving you plenty of notice here!). Come on downunder - you won't regret it I promise!

    Saturday at the Island....

How's this - a full field of F1s and F5000s...awesome sounds, awesome smells (the good stuff - real racing fuel ), and some good racing from these guys. Fantastic weather, great run for us on the way down (I actually had to remember how to drive the little beastie ), lots of people - great stuff. More to come....

here is one for you Chuck

not a F5000 or a hot ford escort but THE hot Porsche of the day
Donaghue's 917 - 30 chassis 002 - (too hot for race authorities to allow to keep racing )

I will try to get a picture of Nicole in it today for Jared

for those "Alfisti" on the board there was the fantastic "P3" Alfa Tipo B from 1931/ 32 there as well. it made a fantastic sound out on the track.

How are all of our feinds going in Group S?

I heard there were 50+ cars entered, and the 2.7 Carreras were having some great dices with the high hp Corvettes and De Tomasos...

Wish I was there... but instead I'll be at the Festival of Sports Car event at Mt Panorama over easter.

    Just back from Phillip island

Lots of fantastic cars there I have some photos but mainly of the non Porsche variety - with the notable exception of the 917 -30

There were at least 3 real RS's battling it out there including a lightweight that I had not seen before as it had only just come into the country. For Brian F. it is 0972 and a picture is attached.

For you guys from RRIII here are a couple of Pics of Nicole from the museum.

they had the rear bodywork of the 917-30 for a while opening up lots of opportunities for pics like this one of the fuel pump and associated plumbing. What an amazing car - MUCH quieter than the F500's (Lolas etc) but it was not being driven hard in the demonstration runs

finally, because it is a work of art, an under bonnet shot of the 1932 Alfa P3.

Awesome, awesome, awesome weekend . I am a very tired little girl (a bit sunburnt too) ...but a very happy one . We got a load of great pics as I know Hugh did also...lots of editing to do before posting them up.

But here's one with two of the favorite men in my life . These guys are Australian Porsche history - both of them.

On the left is Bruce Harris; several time Porsche Club Champion and a racer from waaaay back. Bruce owned a 934 for many years (previously owned by Alan, now owned by another local collector and campaigner) and campaigned it with great success with a 600hp+ engine. BIG handful of car with that much grunt....

On the right is Alan Hamilton - last of the independent Porsche distributors worldwide to be taken over by the Factory. Now Alan's racing history is enormous...all the way to Le Mans. Alan's stable at one time included a couple of Lolas, a 908, couple of 917s etc etc...he started racing as a kid and if his health permitted he would have been out in one of his old Lolas in a flash this weekend .

Both wonderful guys and longtime great friends - no wonder I am smiling .

    But wait there's more!!!

I travelled about 3500kms to get to this event and oh boy is it worth it. There is something for everyoneone

Nice to have Kent Moore with us again, I think he knows he's on to a good thing down here

I suspect Chuck Miller would go off like a frog in a sock at this event!!!!!

There is great access everywhere, the pits are all open and you can wander around to your hearts content and chat with drivers and mechanics.
