I was there when the first video was shot. The video is from the Porsche Club Drivers Ed that was the weekend after the grand re opening of Portland Intl. Raceway after the big paving project.

The guy has put Subaru STI power in the pickup, and put some Bilstien suspension under it, along with Turbo Twist wheels. He was the center of attention. He was moving along at almost mid pack with the street cars, and it was very fun and quite impressive to see.

I've been meaning to take my '68 Crewcab to the track but decided to wait until I can budget bigger wheels & tires. Currently running 3.2 w/46 pmo's, electromotive crankfire, SSI's, home made sport muffler, '84 trans w/7:31 r&p and early 5th gear, double adjustable race shocks front & rear, 22 mm sway bars,27mm rear torsion bars, adjustable spring plates, 4 wheel disk brakes using Wilwood 4 piston calipers f&r. Interior has Scheel 400 & 500 sport seats, Wevo shifter, and just finished a custom dash with 911 gauges

    Those videos made my day.

The concept of those vans going that fast is outrageous. With the aerodynamic drag of a brick, it is amazing how much power is used to pass cars that fast. That black bus was cornering absolutely flat and braking like a true race car.

I always wanted a hot-rod Vanagon Westfalia to get to the camping spot or to haul my autocross car... really quickly

The Red Doka Tristar. He has worked over this T3Gruppe style. Extremely crafty build up, with Porsche 993tt big red fronts, and rear brakes, special hubs, and a Porsche G50 transmission to boot! Yes, it is FAST - look out.

"Hobie" my 1991 Westfalia on the other hand, (while being very Porsche inspired and I think uber kewl - even though it's only a pokey 2.1 litre) isn't really that fast yet... We LOVE it though. It's the elder in my German car family.

My buddy Dieter has put multiple 3.6s w/G50s into Vanagons, and his daily driver is a '68 VW Pickup with a 3.2 (w/DME) and a 915. You'd plotz if you saw the install on these things ... looks factory. We're talking rubber grommets at bulkheads, conduit tubing for harnesses, factory remote coolers with through the body lines - the works! Probably the cleanest conversions I've ever seen, and these suckers go on to do daily driver duty. The pickup gets in the high 20s on gas mileage around town.
