I wanted to get some opinions on the recent Early 911 market update that is in Excellence May 2008 issue that just arrived. Here is what is shown

    so-so $22,220
    Good $25,264
    Excellent $33,820

    1973E
    so-so $24,779
    Good $25,264
    Excellent $37,715

    1973S
    so-so $28,789
    Good $32,732
    Excellent $43,819

Please tell me what you think. Thanks Ron

    Damn,

Second in line behind Frank for the S coupes at $43K.... but I'd also like a crack at the 911E's at $37K.

Could you post the numbers for the 67S's coupe and targa... I want to be first in line on those if the numbers are what I'm guessing they are....

As usual, Bruce Anderson has shown that he has no idea what the market for early Porsche's is. I would go a step further and say Excellence does a disservice to the community by publishing his rubbish.

Not so good for sellers, but ya gotta love his style for buyers...hehe. "Uh, yes sir I realize your early S is for sale at 80,000 but Mr Anderson feels 34,000 is much more like it. Can we negotiate that price downwards a bit?" LMAO And just think of the fun insurance companies will have with that in their hands. "Well sir, we realize your car is a pristine low mileage 73 but the magazine stated market price is only 34,000".

    Lightbulb In all fairness...

I got nuts with Bruce's valuations for years. Then had a talk with him a couple of years ago at Monterey and he said 'I can only stat the sales I can confirm'...

Mind you I'm not defending him doing a valuation column when he anecdotally knows he's WAY off the mark. I think it doesn't do any favors to anybody...

However... I feel it's now expected of him as scheduled part of the publication... and I figure he's not going to stop...

So.... If you want to see the prices anywhere close to reality.... e-mail him with confirmed sale prices of our cars within this community.... Ya, ya, I know that the precise sale amount is almost NEVER discussed within this community... But without the real confirmed stats Bruce will never even come close to getting it right.... We kind'a can't have it both ways...

Maybe we should ask Pete Stout what HE thinks....

He DOES say in the beginning of the article that he has 'heard that prices for Nice S's at double his amounts. Which is almost right!

    Smile E-mail Bruce prices

For the last year I have been E-mailing Bruce EVERY sale that I have come across to try to make him realize what is going on. Most of the sales are on E-bay. I even spoke to him at Rennsport 3 about prices. I also have a beef with him on 356 prices, he says my Excellent condition 56 Speedster is worth $103,000 again he is off by $60,000 to $100,000 He always seems to be off on the prices of Special models like the S cars, Speedsters etc. I have tried to make him aware of the real world but usually guys that have been in the hobby for 40 years just can't make them selves believe what is going on price wise. HOW ABOUT EVERYONE THAT READS THIS SEND A MESSAGE TO EXCELLENCE ABOUT THE INCORRECT PRICING AND SEND BRUCE AN E-MAIL?

What's the harm in having the price guides be off, or way off, aside from the uninformed seller putting a good or great deal out on the market? None of our 2000 some members are likely to make such a mistake, and a person looking to inform themselves could consult this forum, as well as many other resources, to determine their selling price. Not looking to start a fight here, it is a genuine question to see if I am missing something.

Here is another example of price guide inaccuracy:

Sports Car Market 2008 price guide:

911 - SMALL BUMPER - SHORT WHEEL BASE

    1965 - $45k to $65k

    1966 to
    1968 - $20k to $35k coupe
    $20k to $38k targa

    S $30k to $40k coupe or targa

    911 - SMALL BUMPER - LONG WHEELBASE

    1969 to
    1971 - $20k to $35k "T" coupe and targa
    $22k to $37k "E" coupe and targa
    $30k to $50k "S" coupe and targa

    1972 to
    1973 - $20k to $30k "T" coupe and targa
    $22k to $32k "E" coupe and targa
    $32k to $52k "S" coupe and targa
