correct tire size for 1972 911T

It's time for new tires on my 1972 911T.

My car has had changes from stock in terms of tire/rim size.

Currently the car has 195/65VR 15 Dunlop D40M2 mounted on 6 by 15 inch Fuchs. I believe the car originally had 5.5 by 15 inch rims.

Should I stay with the same size tires or deviate. I do not plan on changing rim size.

Any suggestions on size and brand keeping in mind its just for street use?

    Thanks in advance.

Do you want to be peroid correct or do you want more modern rubber.

Factory Sizes are 165-15 and 185/70-15.

If you do not mind a later tire size 205/60-15 fit fine as well.

Some folks split the baby and get 195/65-15's.

If you want hi perfomance tires, you are typically limited to 205/50-15's and your speedo will not be right.

    Hi Peter,

I'm running 195/65R15 Michelin Pilot Exaltos mounted on 6X15 Fuchs on my '72 T. I've logged about 12K street miles on 'em, and have no complaints.
    Cheers!

    Peter,

It really depends on what you are going to use your car for and what other improvments you are going to be doing. There have been some other threads with photos to show different looks and stances. If you are going to stay stock then you should look into a set of 185/70-15's. I am currently obsessed with my lowered E with 205/60-15's........

I use 205/60/15 tires all around on 6J wheels. No problems with fitment under the fenders, and the diameter is right. I can't remember anymore if it's perfect, or off by a tenth or so.

Will 205/60/15 tires fit the rear with 7r rims and 22mm spacers?

Has anyone done this without having rubbing issues?

    Thanks,
