Thread: Chain covers?

    Chain covers?

    I need a little help:

    1. The bolts in the chain housings that holds the chain covers, can I remove them and after cleaning use a little grease when I screw them back in or should I use Locktite? I was thinking about using the grease to prevent corrosion, and I needed to remove the bolts to clean away the old gasket. In the picture one stud has been removed and cleaned and the other is untouched. Do I need to toque them? I am afraid to screw them to far in and damaging the treads, or worse break something, in the chain housing.

    2. In the next picture, is top dead centre the small dot or the letters? In need to set this correct before reinstalling the dizzy.

This is all part of preparations to install preassure tensioners.

    Thanks
    John

I would recomend using Loctite 270 on the studs. When innstalling just innstall them in untill the untreaded part contacts the housig. Remember that the studs have two different lengths of tread. New studs costs next to nothing, then they have the correct coating etc.

When changing the tensioner and checking the cam timing, it is benfitial to use a fixed tensioner. I have some you can borrow. Please send me a PM and I will be in touch.

Use the timing marks on the crankshaft and see where the marks on the cams turn up. Mark the chan in relation to the cam gear just in case.
