What size are the holes in Swiss cheese?

This may seem like an absurd question…this is most likely because it IS absurd…I digress…. If one was to “Swiss cheese” a set of deck lid/ hood/door/ hinges what size and/or arrangement of metric holes would you make? 6mm? 10mm?

    Thanks for you opinion......

I drilled mine with a step drill, most are about 1/4" or 6mm for you Euro-types; a few are 3/8" or 9.5mm. The pattern you choose is open.

I recently completed mine on my lightweight. It is a lot of work and takes some patience, but well worth the effort in my opinion. I really don't remember what drill sizes I used, but it was only two. The pattern was similiar to the pictures posted of the grey ones on post #3. I picked a drill size that was spaced fully on the hinge flat areas and then figured a good center-to-center spacing and went to town. For the larger surface areas, of which there are only two, I went up a few sizes in drill bit. Not sure how much weight I saved, but it sure looks cool.

I agree with Bob, I have even thought about further then hinges...almost like the lightweight 550 that was in Excellence a few year back. I guess I need a parts car to get all of these bits off of. I have a barrier in me that prevents me from using my originals.

Scott, spring is almost here so then I can see your lightweight in action...

I am with Bob on this one...

We must think alike. I was thinking of doing my front hinges also. One thing at a time though. The door handle idea is very cool too, but just can't bring myself to drill a beautifully chromed set that is on the car.
