    '70 and '71 911 differences

My ace mechanic has asked a curly question re door handles on the 2.2 911s.
I need to consult a post from several years ago that stated the differences between the '70 and '71 911s.
I can't remember if it was on this board or Pelican but the differences were quite numerous although most were very small.
Can anyone help with locating this thread or part thread ??

    TIA,
    Dennis.

    Hi Dennis,

    I hope you are well?

    Just a few changes include..
The changes from deep 6 to flat 6 fuchs.
Engine cases in 71 have piston squirters
The trigger on the door handle changed
In 71 I have seen some Ss with a plastic engine vent box

I am working of a couple of 2.2S at the moment if you need me to check anything.

    Thanks

    Alan

    Thanks Alan,

The list I am thinking of maybe came from a dealers annual technical update of some sort.
It listed about 20 items including the differences in the number of diodes in the tachometer - yes it was THAT detailed !
The question my mechanic asked was an observation from working on several 2.2 S models recently.
He said that the other 911s had a door key that was inserted horizontal to the ground but mine was vertical to the ground.
Can you check your 2.2s and let me know pls.
Otherwise, maybe either or both my mechanic/myself should get a life sometime !!
I will be in the UK about this time next year and look forward to meeting you and some of the DDK gang - IF I have any $$$ left after Essen !!

    Cheers,
    Dennis.

Are you referring to the trigger mechanism itself or Porsche's change from a push button to a trigger release? '69 was the the last iteration of the push button door opener they went to a trigger style in 70 to satisfy the DOT side impact regs preventing the door from being opened upon impact.

According to my 71' owners manual and my car, 71' has 3 speed wipers without intermittent feature.
I think it is one year only then back to 2 speed with.

Also glove box pull handle deleted and knob moved to center of door on 71'

    Hi,

RE door handles. The triggers are exactly the same 70> but there are slight differences in the way they mount to the handle.

I believe this to now be approx during the 70 to 71 model year change
I have also seen the key hole in a horizontal position but only in the 72 onwards style of handle. I have several sets here but can't remember what cars they were from.

Please see pic for the minor differences.

PS. I have 2 x 2.2S in the workshop and both have intermittent wipers and then 2 wiper speeds
