Best inexpensive way to ship fenders to Spain?

    Hi There,

I just sold my project car to someone from Spain. All the parts for the restoration will fit in the car just fine except for these rear quarter panels/fenders. We must ship these separately. Can the Postal Service handle things this size? What are my other options?

To qualify my previous statement, you would have to palletize them and air freight them. $500 to start, probably more expensive than that. Standard carriers won't touch oversize.

Unless of course you duct tape them to the roof of the car and pray for the best...

Tie them to the roof ?

the car is being shipped in a container probably , so there is lots of extra room

too big for the Post Office or normal UPS-FedEX

    Ship them w/ the car.

If you use a reliable carrier they will put these two fenders on a pallet for you and find a spot in the same container the car goes. They even might strap them direct to the wall or floor of the container. They should charge not more than $100 each for this service. On your BOS you would help the buyer a lot when you write something like "incl. spare parts" and the receiver doesn't have to pay extra taxes for these fenders. If you send them separate the receiver has to pay for local handling and taxes.

BTW I would not tie them to the roof or hood. During the ocean transit the car rides the waves and you may cause a lot of extra work for the buyer.

    Just my $.02

    shipping

    Hi,
last time I did that, the carrier didn't want to put them on a seperate pallet, so I took the front winshield out, wrapped them into corrugated paper and blankets and tapped them on the front hood and reaching into the car, the windshield with some 1x 4 in the back of the car the same way.
Got to Germany and it didn't exceed the outer measurements of the car....

In your shoes, I'd make a deal with the buyer to get the quarters welded in before the car ships.

    Thanks all for the advice.

Richard, could you suggest some shipping firms that might do this? All the ones we contacted said we could not send extra parts, and could not have parts sticking out of the car. My idea was to leave the back window down (it's a soft Targa), wrap the fenders as GTS describes, place the fenders in the passenger's side sticking out of the back window.
