Thread: Value of short geared 901

    Value of short geared 901

I just bought a motor and tranny for my race car. The tranny is a 901 plumbed for a cooler with short gears, 135 MPH (I think it is a V 5th) and a welded diff, so that would need to come out for street use. My race car has a 915 in so it would be silly to go back to a 901, even though I would love the shorter gearing. Anybody have idea what this tranny is worth.
    Thanks,
    Phil

    Tony,
I don't, I'll have my wrench figure out what's in there.

    Hi Phil,
I am interested in the tranny.
What are the gears, serial, and type numbers.
    Thanks,

Shorter gears get you to 135?

My stock 901 gets my 2.0 E to 135, um, never.

Can you really get airport gears over 115?

Well tranny was in a race car so I am not sure what redline was, probably 7500 RPM.

Just got back from the Iron Bottom Rally in my 67S. Walt Watson, from Competition Engineering was riding with me, and was watching my speed in
5th at 7,200 RPM. It was 118mph. My trans has a 904 mainshaft, with the following gears: A,E,I,O,U. The tires are 195/65/15 (obviously not correct for a 67S, but what I happened to put on for this drive). Hope this answers some of the questions
