    Weber 40IDS3C questions (and photos!)

I just pulled the Weber 40 IDS 3C carbs from my '69S motor. They ran great, but the MFI is now one step closer to returning (and we all know MFI is runs better than carbs, right? ). I am wondering a few things about these carbs:

The serial number on the carb: is it sequential like engine cases?

    Obviously made in Italy:

The reason I ask is that my car had a complete '67S top end on it. SUPER early; all of the casting dates were September '66. This number is very early as well, compared to the other '67S carbs I have seen.

Next, I have seen manifolds with round and rectangular holes in the manifold bridge (these are obviously the round ones). Any idea what the difference is?

    More gratuitous photos:

    Kenik,

Those are PMO manifolds under the IDS carbs.

The Webers are worth good money if they are in good shape with tight shafts.

A restorer will want OEM manifolds but someone doing a conversion will not care.

How do I tell if the shafts are tight? The sure don't wiggle in their bores, if that's it. They ran great on my 2 liter.

Lame on the manifolds, but that's life. I'd rather have the carbs if given the choice.

    Thanks again, Steve!

    PMO Manifolds

    Kenik,

If you want to sell the PMO manifolds I would be interested (or I could trade my stock manifolds plus a little dough)...

PS - I guess I am trying to buy your whole stash it seams

Actually, not that lame on the manifolds. $400 new!

    Hi,

That is an interesting point RE the serial number on the carb. I have a couple of 2.0 S motors/ IDS carbs and will check the numbers in the next few days.

    Thanks

    Alan

    Alan,

Could you possibly post a photo of the correct manifolds?
    Thanks.

    No problem Kenik,

One set are on the car (68S) and the other are having all the shaft bushes re-done so I will try and get a pic ASAP.

    Thanks

    Hi Kenik,

I have just taken some pics for you. Today I vapour blasted one of the 67 S manifolds so it showed more of the details. They are date stamped, both have 67 on them. I will check the 68 ones I have in a few days.

    I hope this helps

    Alan
