    Vas Ist Das?

These parts came out the Skalla car ('71S) and I have no idea what they are. I asked on Rennlist and nobody seemed to know. I sold them a few years ago on ebay but I still don't know what they are? The guy who bought them never even told me. They appear to be factory. The material is the same as found in the rest of the car, and the assembly methods appear to be factory. There is a clamp (for lack of a better word) on the underside that looks like it might slide into the luggage hooks. They almost look like headrests, but they might also be lower leg supports for the rear seats. Do they have any value? I know I didn't get much for them on ebay.

I think those are installed on the rear seat. The clamps go into the lower luggage strap hooks.

There exist a factory picture of a 71 w tan interior who has this kind of bolsters installed as "leg supports" on rear seats.
Looking at that photo I always asked myself what's their function - i'll try to find the picture again.

Could they perhaps be headrests for the rear seat? I would like to see the picture. Seems like the "cut out" was designed to fit into, or onto something.

I believe they are added to the front bottom of the rear seats to increase the rear seating capacity. Porsche wanted to go GT racing in a class more suited towards 'true' four seaters in the early 70's. This was the easy way to get in that class.

Anyone know the particular racing class, homologation year and how many units needed for homologation?

    Midget Drivers Needed

You would have to be a midget driver to use these to extend the length of the rear seats for an "average" adult..

I believe it was 1971. Someone on the board has a silver 71S that came that way from the factory, and I believe had some sort of documentation. The thread was a couple of years old.

That appears to be what they are, which is what we suspected but could never confirm. I was not even able to find them in the PET.

So, were these standard, or optonal? What years were they offered. What might they be worth since they appear to be so rare now?

    Wink 2 questions

    I have two questions:

    1. What are they exactly for? You seem to have no room left for the legs once installed. Was it then only to reach minimum size for race homologation?

    2. On Varunan123's picture, the front seats look like a single "bench"? I can't see any space between them. Is it just the photograph?
