Does anyone know where I could find an original Porsche key blank for my 1965? It came with a single copy key.
Thanks,
Alan

Alan,
I think there is a guy that sells them at the L.A. Lit meet.

Try Tony Euganeo, 610-461-0519. He's the guy. SS
There are two base metals used for the keys.
The original Porsche key is aluminum (it's very light) and will twist off with little provocation. If you have sticking locks or the push button/sleeve starts to corrode and cause the button to be sluggish use the aftermarket key blank:
Taylor USA, P79A (1965-67)
It's brass. A few grams heavier but more robust.
It's a real pain in the doupa to have the key break off in the lock....
Hope this helps.

thanks Bobs 67S, I must have spent an hour at the locksmith today while he hunted for a blank, and it didn't work. info appreciated, Don.
Somewhere I've got a couple uncut blanks I bought from Stoddard in the early 80s. They were for my 67S (Sold). I'll see if I can find them. I also bought a blank or two for what I believe was the glove box and locking hood latch (Targa), both are Huf keys. Not sure if they are the same as a 65' key.

I bought a key blank from Pelican-mine was the same as a 356C key. It had to come from Germany, and was a little pricey, but it is an exact match.

Rick, if you find your blanks please let me know. I'll check to make sure that early 65 is the same as 67.
I bought keys for my 69 from Keys 4 Classics. The copy key I got with the car had a code on it and they cut the keys from the code. They all work perfectly. They told me that my 65 takes a #139 blank

They sell both brass and steel blanks for 911s.They note that the steel doesn't wear as fast which means the lock wears faster. Sounds like brass is the ticket for us.
They will also cut keys from a good close up photo of your key. It's expensive ($50-60), but I'll bet it's cheaper than going all over town to find the blanks and getting the keys cut wrong 2 or 3 times before they get it right.
I'd like to have one original Porsche key, so I'll go with aluminum or whatever they were for that one. I'm going to send that blank to Keys 4 Classics to cut when they do my new brass keys.
I have to disagree. My car has the original keys to the car and I also have an extra ignition switch w/ key. I tested it w/ an iron magnet and it attaches strong to the keys. Also do they rust, I have one of those as well. The original Porsche key is aluminum (it's very light)

Here is front and back of the key I bought from Stoddard in the early 80s. Not aluminum, as a magnet does indeed attach to it. I found one blank, I know I have others. Any input on if these will work with a 65'? I know they are for a 67' but what other years? Alan, I'll let you know when I find the others.
