Price Check: 1973 911 S Targa Black on Black

Appreciate any input on value of a 73 S targa...

An original Calif. car matching everything, 115K miles, factory A/C and full leather interior, perfect sport seats, no hits/rust, one high quality repaint.
An unmolested near mint original car. Motor completely detailed.
    Thanks
    AJ

Ironic...67S targas worth more than 67S coupes.
73S coupes worth more than 73S targas. Without seeing pictures $50-55ish.
Post em if you got em.

I think the soft rear window helps the earlier cars. The zip out rear window has a charm to it and is a clear link to the 356 cabriolet. The original soft rear, zip out was offered by the factory on the cab in 1962. On a hot day, top up with the rear and sides open you get sort of a natural air conditioning. The SRW targas duplicate this. I'm not a targa fan but I'd go for a softie. SS

Exactly. It really is a convertible with a wide flat rollbar. IMO, a softie is an ideal summer day cruiser. Plus, the zip out rear window enhances the 2.0S soundtrack above 4000 rpms. With the window down you can see the link to the lines of the rear of the 356 better, too.

I think the high end (1 and 1+) is closer to 200% the stated #2 value on '72/73 S coupes based on my observations of (very quiet) private party transactions. These are fully documented low mile originals.

I agree. I think, however, the spread between targas and coupes is narrowing and will continue to do so as these cars increase in collector status. The better driving, better looking coupes often lose out to open cars when they become prized more for their collector value than for their driving value. With the relative rarity of the targas versus coupes, I think this will probably happen with the 911. Just look at 356s as an example.

Can anyone name a model where the coupe is worth more than the open version? Until recently the 300SL was one, but the roadsters have caught up even there.
