    Rust repair, keep the faith!

Im selling a 74 over on Pelican, and am in process of repairing the rockers on it, should be done in a week or so. Just wanted to post a couple photos for those who might fear the car they own is terminal... Lots of work went on under this repair, it was bad! If anyone is interested, I have lots more pictures. This is from a 73E. See Ya-Bill

How come that they almost / always rust in the spot shown? I think there are multiple layers of sheetmetal there but from where does the water get there? From the locking post down, from the rear wheel inner fender? Is there something you can do to prevend future rust there either when it's currently rust free or when you have to replace it anyway?

    Thanks,

    Rust Trap

Having just removed the Wurth undercoating from an entire car. I found this location to be about the biggest aera for trapping mud dirt and sand to hold the moister. Back in behind the rocker support. And nothing but the primer to protect this aera on the inside. Let alone what a pain to get back in there to use a scrapper.
But I also think that not much thought was given to these cars being around for 35-40 years later either. I don't know why because they are as much a blast to drive today as they were to go for a ride with the old man back when they were new. I always knew it was going to be fun when Dad would say "Hold on wea'r gonna go fast and hard"

This spot seems to rot from inside, not due to mud trapped behind the rocker support?
