    Shroud Color

Good morning. I have been looking at a lot of cars lately during my quest for an early 911 and have some questions regarding the engine covers. First of all to ground myself, it is my understanding that the T was yellow, E was green and S red. So questions are what year did this begin and end? Was this always the case, meaning, could a T be delivered from the factory with a black shroud? Also assume that these may have been damaged and replaced during rebuilds. Any incite would be appreciated. Oh, and sorry if this has been discussed, I did a search and could not come up with a similar discussion. Appreciate your time.

T with a black shroud should be a 73.5 CIS

I thought the colors started in with the '69MY; Is is also possible that the SWB T's had black shrouds...

Can add one more color to the mix... 911R's had yellow shrouds.

    - amended my original post to include the '70 & '71 T black shrouds.

John - the 'natural' grp 911R/ST/RSTR shrouds are usually described as 'amber'...

Thanks, Andy, you're right. I have one on my '67 and really like the look -- and it's definitely amber.

Just to throw a wrench in the mix, a friend of mine has an all-original, including paint, 73.5 CIS T, that came with a yellow shroud, and I've seen others, as well.
