    H-1 Dissassembly....?

This may sound odd, but I was attempting to unscrew the adjuster screws out of the trim ring and they are not comming out. I was wondering if there is a trick to removing them? It seems there is a retainer on the back with a rubber washer. Do I cut the retainer and then remove the screw? Let me know your thoughts.

    Thanks,

    Andrew

Andrew- They're not meant to be disassembled/serviced. I have a NOS H1 ring and it came with the 4 adjuster screws already attached.

I did the same on my set. I used a plier to gently bend the oval retainer ring to a round shape then it came off, and then screwed of the rubber bit. Installing I reversed the process.

    :agree: What John said.

That washer you see at the base of those threads is ovaled and pinched on the threads.

    Thanks alot!!!

I have spent about 30 minutes and I have gotten two off. It is tedious but it works. Any other advise for removing the "springy" adjuster end? Unsrew and pray....

    Thanks again,

That piece is crimped to the threaded portion. Try some heat on the fitting - it's fairly soft metal. It should come right off. Getting it back on securely? That's another matter ....

    Andrew,

I have been going thru the same process as you are and am at the point of a solution for the spring screw. I have not moved forward yet hoping to think of a better way.

I will need to source a long threaded screw and will then cut the existing screw closest to the ring to remove. After rechrome, I will reattach the end of the old screw near the spring to the new screw with a sleeve and braze.

    Geez,

You guys are great. Your advise has kept me going. I am not restoring this unit. I parted it out and had not realized the challenge ahead of me... . I have H-4's on my E; I am fairly certian that it is too late in production to have received H-1s.

I ended up cutting the last two retainers and slightly marring the screws on the non-viewable side. The "springy" adjuster gave in to unscrewing. I would like to note that using the green handled crimping pliers in the photo helped tremendously. Using the insulated section of the jaws the on the round of the springy guy. I did just like the other retainers and made the square round again.

    Thanks !!!!!!!

    Good work.
