    Speedo cable

I have a 71E with a 901 tranni. I am now on my third speedo cable in a year.

they keep sheering off in the rear of the cable near the transmission. couple of questions.

Is that what I should expect, and just plan to keep replacing them. ( I Have gooten good at it)

Is there a way I can repair the cable withough having to pull the old one out. ie replace the inner cable. I looked on the web, and they used to make a slide in repair, but it is NLA.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

    Hmm

    No alternative solution.

I talked with an electrical engineer friend of mine yesterday. I am thinking of making a remote sensor on the transmission with a moter to drive the spedo. will have to see if we can make it work.

BTW no kinks in the cable... They are just failing on me.

Where is it breaking? Is the grooved section breaking off the cable near the speedo drive or is it further up?

When you replaced the speedo cable the first time did it get routed the same as the orignal. Is there a sharp bend anywhere. I was amazed the way the cable was routed in the trunk behind the dash. I always use extra quality cable on the new cable. Lube is your friend, always . Just a thought.
