FYI: EvilBay ad for my 1969 911S

    Gents,

I don't like using this forum as an eBay selling tool but a couple of friends have suggested that I should mention this sale as a lot of you avoid EvilBay... but could find this of interest.

    I listed this yesterday: Porsche1969 911S the ORIGINAL R Gruppe 911.
    Item # 320247980973.

I am aware that you enjoy discussing cars listed so please feel free to comment [or hammer ;->] away. I always put my fire suit on when I list items I hope that my participation here won't inhibit any of you from feeling free to comment. [I will avoid this site until it is over so there is no chance I will get defensive. On the other hand, if you have questions, you will need to contact me direct and all resources are listed on the auction.]

BTW, I STILL swear I am going to clean out a quantity of my Porsche parts and at least one other Porsche in the coming months [yes...i have said this before. i am really serious this time. really. honest.] I will give a heads up when I start listing parts and the other 911. I know a lot of you hate eBay but it lets me sell off parts without wasting hours figuring out how much to ask for the stuff and seems to get the job done.]
    Thanks
    John Rice

The car that started it all for me and probably the MOST famous R Gruppe car.

Investment is probably not the right reason to buy a car, but this specific car - forget condition, year, model or anything else - is going to be considered a steal in a few years. 'R Gruppe' is part of the Porsche lexicon worldwide due to this car. Let's hope it doesn't go overseas ....

This should be an interesting sale to watch.

The recent low sale [29k]of the hopkins 69S interestingly raises the question of the value of a modded car vs. an original car. It will be informative to see the marketplace value. I am in no way saying the two cars have anything in common except for both being 69, white and modified from original. The Rice car is exceptional and the Hopkins car was incomplete and the sale poorly managed. My interest comes from the fact that I own a Ivory 69S in need of restoration and could take it in either direction original or "R". I am leaning "R".

Currently, there are 3 very nice and original cars on Ebay; a 68S coupe, 69S coupe and a 69S targa . This should provide an interesting insight to the current market. The 67 & 68 softies listed are not IMO comparable. They seem to have developed their own market following and values.

The 69S Coupe at Truespeed has 6hrs to go and is currently @ $48,000. It has been list constantly for the last month. I do not think it will sell this time either. I believe they want in the $70s for the car. The 68 is listed w a BIN @ $58,000 it has 5 days to go and is at $40,000. The Targa is at $37,000 w/ 3 days to go. One thing that has certainly been proven is there are a lot of nice early Ss out there and the current values are bring them to market.

Yeah, what Curt said... I am all about history and provenance and this car has both in spades. I really do hope that a member snags this car to keep it in the family. It is really tempting...

I also am hoping this car does not sell via Ebay. It would be a shame.

Worth visiting the auction to see how The Good Doctor's inquiry was handled. Nicely done, Mr Rice!
