Hello one and all, I am trying to confirm if I have the correct engine number for a 1973 T Targa, 9113111657. The engine # is 6123592. I tried to do a search but didn't get any meaniful response.
Thanks,
Tom Scott

I think that the 4th digit is year and the 5th digit is the model type. I believe yours works out to be a 73 911S. My 1971 911S is 91113...
I am not an expert, so don't flame me if i'm wrong

911--Yep
3---'73
1---T
1---Targa
I can try to check the engine # later if no one beats me to it. Take a look at the engine type code on the block. EX 911/51 style code. I can post more info later.
oops, I read it wrong. The 3 and 1 are switched.
My bad, sorry

Hi Tom, the second digit of the engine number defines the type, 1= T 2=E and 3= S. The third digit is the year, in this case 1972, so what you have is a 72 T engine.

Thanks to all who responded to my inquiry. I would like to be able to determine the original engine number without the COA nonsense and expense. Is there a source to do this easily?
