    Torque values

    I need some torque values(1971 S MFI):

    1. Nuts, throttle bodies to heads
    2. Nuts, stacks to throttle bodies
    3. Nuts, bottom of airbox's to stacks
    4. Nuts, funnels to bottom of airbox'
    5. Nuts, MFI bottom mounting plate to case
    6. Nuts, MFI pump to mounting plate
    7. MFI injectors

    8. Oil line connecting to case under left heat exchanger
    9. Oil line connecting to oil cooler right front side of engine

Can not find this info in any of my books, only the "standard" torque for M6, M8 etc.

    Anyone have these values?

I also need the values for the nuts on the CV plate on the trans. (about 12 nuts)

CV plate??? If you mean the side cover - has about 13 studs; and maybe a foot across...

then 18 ft-lb. on each nut - do them cross-wise.

Yes I was thinking of the side cover! Thanks...

    torque values

John, I have never seen published torque specs for most of those fasteners, it's just something you develope a feel for. As previously mentioned the standard torque for an 8mm bolt/stud is 18, I've never seen even a standard for 6, on stuff like that I just use 1/4" drive tools and choke up on them, ie don't use the full tool length.

    Thanks Ed!

In my engine rebuild book, it says standard specs if nothing else is stated:

    M6 - 11Nm
    M8 - 25Nm
    M10 - 50Nm

I was afraid to use 25nm for the trottle bodies because of the risk of breaking the "ears" off. I used 20Nm.

For the heat exchangers it also says 25Nm in the book, but it was impossible to use a torque wrench in the tight space, so I had to go by "feel"......

This is what I have done so far. Getting new valve covers tomorrow. Starter and alternator will be restored too.

you can schlep a little green Loctite in now... touch the tube to the nut/stud "corner"

the green will wick into the threads
