    I did this last weekend.

Remove the mirror from the door and from memory there was two notches on the end of the 'shaft?' or similar that holds the base and mirror together.

I used some needlenose pliers to twist this slightly and that seemed to pull the two halves together and remove the slop.

Disclaimer: I have been to a long lunch today and have a slightly fuzzy memory....

I just bought a mirror at Hershey. It was frozen in place and did not swivel at all. I let put some marvel mystery oil on overnight. next day it loosened up. I was able to adjust the movement by tightening the allen screw on inside of the mirror housing.

    Not working

I took the door panel off. What a pain, that nut from the inside of the door holding the map pocket was a pia. Took the mirror off, tried to tighten the allen bolt located to the bottom of the mirror base, but to no avail. I would tighten and tighten or loosen and loosen, the mirror never stabilized. The bolt maybe stripped, as it would not loosen to come out and would not tighten completely.

I don't know if this is an original Durant mirror. Is it time for a replica or replacement?

Another questions pertaining to mirrors, I noticed that the passenger side mirror is about two inches further back than the driver side mirror. Where mirrors installed at dealer or at factory? Was it commong to have dual mirrors from the factory installed in this non-symmetrical manner?

If the mirrors are installed symmetrically you wont be able to see anything in the right side mirror. I have never seen a factory installed right side mirror on that vintage of a left hand drive car, but if you'll look at the SC's that did have factory standard dual mirrors you'll notice that they are also non-symmetrical.
