    1970 S VIN Sticker Question

Hi all, this is a photo of the sticker on the driver's side rear door post:

It fits in a recess in the post and as you can see, the left edge of the sticker has been trimmed so that it would fit. The VIN and manufacturing dates are correct and this looks like the original paint (only a small area of the left rear was repainted in the 80s).

I am just curious if other's stickers are like this or not.

    Cheers,
    Michael

The sticker looks to have been masked off for painting which could have created the "ledge" to which you refer.

    Here are 3 '73 stickers.

    Best,

Is it possible to get replacements for these from Porsche or good reproductions?

It does appear that mine was masked for a paint over. I am planning a bare metal repaint this autumn. How do people generally deal with these VIN stickers in that case?

    cheers,
    Michael

Thanks Brian! I don't know how I missed that on my searches. I PM'd Bob to see if he has any 70s left.

    cheers,
    Michael

By the way Brian, I just bought an 83 911 SC Cabriolet from CA yesterday - so my fix for an open car should be here in several weeks. I feel a lot better now that I've decided to keep the 70S. Today it was 61, clear, dry and sunny on the drive to work through the back roads of MA to Cambridge. What a drive!

Have you found an S coupe yet?

    Cheers,
    Michael

Excellent, Bob has them left and I paypal'd just now. I am thinking of seeing if I can splice the missing part of my VIN sticker using 1 of the 2. That might be better than a wholesale replacement since the part that is still there has the date and VIN on it.
