    1970 S Muffler Flange

Hi all (again!), I am installing 2 O2 sensor bungs on the muffler inlets (as per john_cramer over on Pelican thread) for an LM-1 air-fuel sensor with an LC-1 so I can monitor left and right banks at the same time. My muffler is stainless but the flanges and inlets are not (so it appears). I know the muffler was replaced on 5/5/1975 (53532 miles) by the OO and the car now has 120000 miles. The muffler looks pretty good but the flanges are pretty rusty. Here is a close-up of the left flange:

I need to have the bungs welded on but before I do, I wanted to check here to get opinions on whether I should replace the muffler now (before incurring the bung installation expense). Can these flanges be used as they are (I do have new gaskets and bolts/nuts) or can they be repaired?

    cheers,
    Michael

Ok, I just dropped the muffler and bungs off at my local shop. They said the best thing to do is to file the surfaces flat and not mess with it too much. Sounds reasonable. Should get the muffler back with its new bungs tomorrow just in time to install the LM-1 and LC-1 in time for the weekend. I do plan to photograph the install and post here and "there".

    cheers,
    Michael
