Wink "Le Mans" by Paul Blancpain

In the Summer of 1970, Jo Siffert rented a fleet of racing cars to Solar production for the making of Steve McQueen's movie "Le Mans".

    The fleet included several 911 (R and S), a 908, a 917, a 914 and a Corvette.

Paul Blancpain, a close friend of Siffert, was responsible for looking after these cars during the shoot.

While on the circuit, Blancpain filmed the "making of" with an 8mm camera. The film was never published .

    Here is a short sample:

I was wondering if you thought it was worth editing and publishing a DVD?

w/ voice overs from the right people (Steve's family for starters) it could be a Speed Channel special feature.

could certainly be packaged with the movie itself.

do it 'Legends of Motorsports' style w/ interviews mixed in with the historical footage. it would be fabulous (do i sound hollywood enough?!)

if it made a few bucks you could put that $$ towards a great big coffee table book documenting the cars you've shared here and maybe add a few others (hint hint).

    yes!

As someone who bought the siffert dvd and loved it ... i would say yes.
Pretty much anything siffert would be a "go" in my book.

    Wink Siffert and McQueen

Here you see Jo Siffert getting out of his 917 and talking to Derek Bell and Steve McQueen:
