    Steering shaft play normal?

When I push/pull with boths hands strongly on the steering wheel of my 911E (momo prototipo + hub) in the driver vs instruments/gauges direction I notice a +-1milimeter (0,04 inch) play. Again it only does it if I push pull strong.

    Can that be considered normal?

I have check the steering wheel bolt and it's tight to specified torque.

    Thanks. Arturo

No, probably not normal. Stock 911 hub takes a spring and a collar that fits into the steering column bearing.

Momo hub I am not sure, you may just have to wrap with electrical tape to take up the slack, I have read that some have done that.

FWIW, when I installed my Momo wheel and adapter, I moved the spring and bush to the base of the adapter with no problems. My wheel does mot move (improperly).

You shouldn't resort to electrical tape to take up slack. Something is out of kilter in your setup. I've done wheels on cars for years and have never had this issue. I think it's time to look at "how it goes together" again.

The spring should slide up onto the MOMO hub just like the stocker and apply pressure to the bushing. If the spring is inadvertently left out the wheel will be VERY sloppy.

    Good luck,

    Tom

    Hi,

Porsche also used a support ring which sits under the spring. This is shown on the PET up and including 1969 cars. Across those years (up to 73), the shaft bearing and the spring are the same, so I am not sure why these were stopped being used. I fit support ring for all years and it does help, the reason being it has a lip which sits up against the bearing inner face and takes out some slack, the spring then helps hold the ring and thus steering tight.
