    WTB: 911 targa

Looking for a '69 - '73 targa T or E, must be a clean, solid driver at minimum. Open to most all colors but red. Price range is really dependent on the car but I initially was thinking in the $15K range. Any advice or opinions on what I should expect to find in this price range would be greatly appreciated.

Since this is my first post I just wanted to say what a great site, and yes I've already joined the Registry.

    thanks...Steve

    not much

don't want to burst your bubble, but 15k will not get you much;decent drivers are more like 25-35,save your money and buy the best money can buy

FWIW, this board isn't the place to buy a nice $15K targa. They can be found for sale by the unwitting on sites like Craigslist, but among enthusiasts like those on this board, nothing goes underpriced. Sadly, the days of perfect T targa driver for $15K ended over a year ago. Last November, I bought a '65 911, a nearly perfect driver, for significantly less than $15K, so take heart...you just have to do a lot of leg work and get a little lucky.

The above advice is good, but I would add that if you can pay another +$4-5K, the available pool of good vehicles will triple, at least.

Thanks to everyone for the advice and comments. The $15K price range was like I said my "initial" thinking which was based on Ebay and Craigslist data. Problem with both sources is I have no idea the actual condition of the cars sold which is the reason I turned to this board for help.

What would be a realistic price range to expect (private party) for a clean targa that hasn't had or needs a full restoration? Obviously not looking for a perfect example or even the best deal out there (contrary to my $15K starting point). Just trying to find a solid car that I can drive immediately but still have some fun turning it into a project.

    Thanks again...Steve

These vintage Porsches are not a commodity, so it's all anecdotal. I recently saw a nice '73 E Targa that only needed paint, sit unsold for over 1/2 a year at around $20K and then there were three buyers all desperate to have it *now.* I'll be happy to PM you if anything comes up on my radar. The car you want is out there, but its appearance on the market can't be predicted.

    Steve,
If you want a good deal ya gotta get out there with all the gunslingers and do battle, good deals don't last very long. If you aren't an expert with these cars I would take your time and figure out what's important to you. Your task will be greatly simplified if you live somewhere that has a large native Porsche population. The rest of the world has figured out board members have known for years, these are terrific cars and represent a great value in the sports car world.
    Good Luck!
    Phil
