Note the photo of the VIN plate and VIN stamp...

Could a 911 and 912 chassis get mixed?

wow I have never seen such a thing. I would send this picture to the Porsche archives and see if they know if Porsche ever placed vins like that on any cars.

On the early cars, the VIN is stamped under the lower knee pad. It would be interesting to see what number is there.

The production number should also match one of those numbers.
If you can take off the top dash cover you should see it hand
    written there.

I would say on these cars almost anything could happen. I had a 69S that had two different VIN #'s one digit apart, didn't realize it until I got a COA that decribed a different car.

I noticed the same thing when that car was listed. Makes one very
suspicious, as I've not seen the same situation previously.

I sent this very request to the seller and he responded saying he would take the knee pad off and shoot a photo of the prodution #.

Here is a photo of the paint tag which confirms the stamped VIN in the trunk.

    Brian-
It will be interesting to see that #. The 405235 seems odd, and doesn't
    match any references I have.

Here you go. It's a match to the stamped VIN.
